Meet the Florida girls
Jayme Sophia Romano is a girl who has
goals, wishes, and is determined to make them come true when it comes to her
passion, skateboarding. She is 12 years
old.
Danay Paris Parker is the best dancer
at her studio in the girl’s small town.
She studies ballet and hip hop.
She is older than the other girls at 14, but loves hanging out with her
cousin Jayme.
Kyla Lynne Galloway is the youngest
of the bunch at only 10 years old. Her
big sister Teagan is her best friend and she loves going to the beach with
her. She loves to surf and is excellent
at it.
Teagan Izabella Galloway loves
gymnastics and is happy to have a team to compete with. She is twelve years old and very good at her
sport. She is a great big sister and
doesn’t mind hanging out with her little sister Kyla.
Nealie Rose Nelson
loves to ice skate. She has to travel
out of town to train but finds time for her favorite sport. Nealie has a twin brother Noah. She loves to
shop and is twelve years old.
Camille Mae Kirby also
known as Cami isn’t sure what sport is her favorite. She plays tennis and also soccer. In this story she has a hard decision to
make, she wants to focus on one sport because she feels like she is too
busy. Cami is also twelve.
Chapter 1
The sun
was bright and warm in the sky. The waves
were rolling onto the shore steadily and the birds were calling to each other overhead.
Six best friends were relaxing on the beach together.
It was
a Saturday and their only day off. They
all were very dedicated to different sports and this one day was a carefree day
that they could spend together doing whatever they wanted. Usually it was always spending time at the
beach because they lived in Florida.
“How is
your gymnastics going Teagan?” Danay asked her friend.
“Oh it’s
going ok, there is a big competition coming up and as usual I’m a little
nervous” Teagan said.
“A
little?” her sister Kyla laughed.
“Hey
you get nervous before surfing competitions so I don’t want to hear it” Teagan
said back to her sister.
“Speaking
of surfing,” Kyla said, “I think the waves are calling me.” Kyla took her surf
board and went into the water to charge the waves.
“She
has got to teach me how to do that” Cami said.
“I know
right” Nealie said, “It looks so fun.”
“It’s
also pretty scary sometimes” Jayme said. “I was out there before and a wave
came over me and held me underwater with the surf board on top of me! I
couldn’t push it off me and finally when I did I had had enough!”
“Don’t
let one bad experience stop you from trying again,” Cami said, “Besides isn’t
surfing like skateboarding?”
Jayme
laughed, “Not at all.”
“Yeah
when you crash on a wave you hit water, which don’t get me wrong it hurts, but
when you crash on a skateboard, that’s the ground and I think that hurts worse”
Nealie said.
“Oh I forgot you used to skate with
Jayme sometimes, why don’t you anymore?” Danay asked.
“Ice
skating is taking up all my time, I have to drive to another town to practice
you guys know that. This little old town doesn’t have a skating rink!” Nealie
said.
“Yeah
it doesn’t have much” Teagan said.
The
girls watched as Kyla caught a really nice wave and stood up on her board and gracefully
rode through the water.
“She is
so good” Nealie said.
“Yeah
for a ten year old she sure is” Teagan said.
The
girls were all twelve years old except Danay she was fourteen. She only hung around the girls because Jayme
was her cousin and the only reason Kyla was allowed to hang out with them was
because she was Teagan’s sister.
“How is
dancing going Danay?” Cami asked.
“Oh it’s
good, I am focusing on ballet but doing some hip hop for fun. I love all types of dance” she said.
“Do you
think you want to be a dance teacher one day or be in shows in New York?” Nealie
asked.
“Oh it
doesn’t matter to me as long as I can dance. I live to dance,” Danay said.
“We
know” Jayme laughed.
“Girls
it’s about time to go soon” a voice said from the boardwalk behind them.
It was
Danay’s mom. She had a minivan so she had brought the girls to the beach.
“Doesn’t
it seem like we just got here? Teagan asked.
“Yes
but my skin knows it has been awhile” Cami said pointing to her pink skin. She had red hair and freckles and was easily
sun burnt.
“I think
you may have gotten a few more freckles there” Jayme said.
The
girls laughed.
